Student Insurance Coverage
Using Your Student Health Plan
At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, we welcome students who are seeking meaningful, in-depth therapy. While many college health plans cover only psychologists, most university insurance plans offer coverage for sessions with registered psychotherapists, psychologists, and social workers. This means you may already have access to the support you need through your student benefits.
Coverage for University Students in Ontario (2024-2025)
Most university insurance plans provide some coverage for the services of psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers.
Algoma University
Algoma’s student insurance plan provides coverage for full-time undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate and graduate students
$600 of total coverage for psychotherapists, psychologists, and social workers (MSW).
Laurentian University
Laurentian has separate insurance plans for undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate students
Provides full coverage up to $800 over a year for sessions with a psychologist, social worker, master of social work, professional counsellor, counselling therapist, or psychotherapist.
Coverage for graduate students
Covers $20 per session for up to $300 per year for services from a social worker/counsellor, master of social work or psychotherapist.
Toronto Metropolitan University
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) provides mental health coverage for part-time, undergraduate, and graduate students.
Coverage for part-time students
Provides $100 coverage per session for up to a total of $750 of coverage for services delivered by psychologists, social workers (RSW or MSW), counsellors, or psychotherapists.
Coverage for undergraduate students
Provides coverage up to $1000 per year for services delivered by psychologists, social workers (RSW or MSW), counsellors, or psychotherapists.
Coverage for graduate students
Provides coverage up to $750 per year for services delivered by psychologists, social workers (RSW or MSW), counsellors, or psychotherapists.
Western University
Western University provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate students
Covers a total of $1200 for services delivered by psychotherapists and counsellors.
Coverage for graduate students
Covers 80 percent per session for up to $500 for services delivered by psychologists or psychotherapists.
Brock University
Brock has separate insurance plans for undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate and graduate students
$100 of total coverage for psychologists, psychotherapists, clinical counsellors, and social workers (MSW).
McMaster University
McMaster has insurance plans for part-time, undergraduate, and graduate students.
Coverage for part-time and undergraduate students
Provides 80% coverage per session for up to $300 over a year for services from clinical psychologists or psychotherapists.
Coverage for graduate students
Covers $100 per session for up to $400 per year for services from a psychologist, social worker, clinical counsellor, master of social work or psychotherapist. A referral from your doctor is required for coverage.
Trent University
Trent provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.

$1000 of total coverage for psychologists, psychotherapists, clinical counsellors, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
University of Ottawa
The University of Ottawa provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate and graduate students
Covers 80 percent per session for a total of $1500 for services delivered by counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Wilfrid Laurier University
Wilfrid Laurier University provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate students
Covers $100 per visit for a total of $1000 for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers (MSW).
Coverage for graduate students
Covers $60 per visit for up to $400 for services delivered by psychologists, clinical counsellors, social workers (MSW), or psychotherapists.
Carleton University
Carleton has separate insurance plans for undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate students
Covers $75 per session with a psychologist, clinical counsellor, or social worker (MSW) for up to $300 for the year.
Coverage for graduate students
Covers $50 per session with a psychologist, psychotherapist or social worker (MSW) up to $500 per year.
Nippising University
Nippising has a single insurance plan for undergraduate and graduate students.

Provides $30 of coverage per therapy session for up to $300 per year from services delivered by a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, or social worker (RSW or MSW).
Guelph University
The University of Guelph provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Covers 80 percent per session for a total of $750 for services delivered by psychotherapists or counsellors.
University of Windsor
University of Windsor provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Coverage for undergraduate students
Covers 80% of the cost of therapy sessions for a total of $800 for services delivered by clinical counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, psychoeducators, and social workers (MSW).
Coverage for graduate students
Covers $400 for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
York University
York University provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Covers $125 per visit for up to 10 visits for undergraduate or 15 visits for graduate students for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Brock University
Lakehead provides similar insurance coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Covers $125 per session for a total of $500 of therapy delivered by social workers (MSW), counsellors, or psychotherapists.
OCAD University
OCAD provides mental health coverage for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Provides up to $1000 coverage for services delivered by psychologists, social workers (RSW or MSW), and psychotherapists.
Université de Hearst
Université de Hearst provides mental health coverage for undergraduate students.

University of Toronto
University of Toronto provides mental health coverage for part-time, undergraduate, and graduate students.

Covers $125 per visit for up to 15 visits for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Coverage for undergraduate students on St. George Campus
Covers $100 per visit for up to 15 visits for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Coverage for undergraduate students on Mississauga Campus
Covers $125 per visit for up to 25 visits for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Coverage for undergraduate students on Scarborough Campus
Covers $125 per visit for up to 20 visits for services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Coverage for graduate students
Covers 100 percent per session for a total of $750 for services delivered by counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers (RSW or MSW).
Coverage for College Students in Ontario (2024-2025)
While many college student plans cover psychologists, very few also cover a psychotherapist’s services.
Algonquin
Algonquin College only provides coverage for clinical psychologists, covering 80 percent of the session for up to a total of $250 per year.
Boréal
Boréal College provides $1000 in total insurance coverage for services delivered by a psychologist, social worker (RSW or MSW), or psychoanalyst.
Cambrian
Cambrian College only covers psychologist services for a maximum of $700 per year.
Canadore
Canadore College offers students three health plans that cover clinical psychologists. These plans cover $20 to 100 percent of each session for a total of $200 to $400.
Centennial
Centennial College provides 80% coverage for a total of $500 coverage for services administered by clinical psychologists.
Conestoga
Conestoga College covers 70 percent of therapy sessions with psychologists and social workers (RSW or MSW) for a total of $300 coverage per year.
Confederation
Confederation College offers students three different insurance plans. These plans only cover services delivered by a clinical psychologist, covering up to $150 to $300 in total, depending on the policy.
Fanshawe
Fanshawe College offers students three different insurance plans. These plans only cover services delivered by a clinical psychologist, covering $20 to $30 per session for a total of $300 to $400 total.
Fleming
Fleming College offers students three different insurance plans. One of these plans covers $50.00 per session for a total of $400.00 for the year. This includes the services of a psychologist, psychotherapist, or social worker (RSW or MSW) but must be recommended by a physician.
George Brown
George Brown College offers students four different insurance plans. These plans cover 70 to 90 percent of the cost of each therapy session for a total of $1000 of coverage per year for services delivered by a psychologist, psychotherapist, or social worker (RSW or MSW).
Georgian
Georgian College provides coverage of up to $750 total for services delivered by a psychologist, psychotherapist, or social worker (RSW or MSW).
Humber
Humber College offers three different insurance plans for students. They cover 80 percent of the cost of each session for a total of $300 for therapy delivered by a psychologist.
Lambton
Lambton College does not provide coverage for mental health practitioners.
Loyalist
Loyalist College does not provide coverage for mental health practitioners.
Michener Institute
Michener Institute provides 100 percent coverage for up to $500 for therapy services delivered by psychologists, psychotherapists, or social workers (RSW or MSW).
Mohawk
Mohawk College covers $25 per visit for up to a total of $400 for therapy sessions delivered by a psychologist or social worker (RSW or MSW). However, students must first receive a referral from their doctor.
Niagara
Niagara College provides four different insurance options to students which cover therapy sessions with social workers (RSW or MSW) for up to $400 per year.
Northern
Northern College offers students four different insurance plans but none cover the cost of mental health services.
Mohawk
Mohawk College covers $25 per visit for up to a total of $400 for therapy sessions delivered by a psychologist or social worker (RSW or MSW). However, students must first receive a referral from their doctor.
Niagara
Niagara College provides four different insurance options to students which cover therapy sessions with social workers (RSW or MSW) for up to $400 per year.
Northern
Northern College offers students four different insurance plans but none cover the cost of mental health services.
Ridgetown Campus
Ridgetown Campus College provides 100 percent coverage up to $400 total for therapy services delivered by a psychologist or social worker (RSW or MSW).
Sault
Sault College does not currently provide coverage for any therapy services.
Seneca
Seneca College provides students with four different insurance plans. These plans cover between $20 to 90 percent of a therapy session up to a maximum of $300 to $400 per year. It only covers the services of a psychologist, and only if you are referred by a doctor.
Sheridan
Sheridan College does not currently provide coverage for any therapy services.
St. Clair
St. Clair College does not currently provide coverage for any therapy services.
St. Lawrence
St. Lawrence College offers four different insurance plans for students. Only one of these plans provides coverage for mental health services. Currently, it only covers sessions with a psychologist, who you are referred to by a doctor. The plan covers 80 percent of the cost of individual sessions for up to $300 per year.
