At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, we provide clinical supervision in accordance with the standards set out by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). CRPO requires all Qualifying Registered Psychotherapists to complete a minimum of 100 hours of clinical supervision with a CRPO-Approved Clinical Supervisor. These hours must include supervision related to at least 450 direct client contact hours to qualify for registration as a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).
Supervision must be conducted individually, dyadically, or in small groups, and may take place virtually or in person. Group supervision may count toward up to 50% of the total required supervision hours, depending on the group size and structure. Once registered, RPs are encouraged to continue engaging in clinical supervision or consultation as part of their ongoing professional development and quality assurance requirements.
During the initial supervision meeting, the supervisor will review the informed consent for supervision, clarify learning objectives, get to know the supervisee and vice versa, and ensure alignment with CRPO’s competency framework. Supervisees are asked to provide proof of their CRPO registration status, professional liability insurance (minimum $1 million coverage per occurrence), and, if applicable, documentation of employer or placement site consent. Collaboration with any co-supervisors or clinical consultants will also be formally coordinated.
For complete details, please refer to the CRPO’s Clinical Supervision Requirements.
CRPO Supervision Requirements
Clinical supervision is an essential part of ongoing professional development in psychotherapy. At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, we offer clinical supervision provided by a Registered Psychotherapist for clinicians seeking guidance, growth, expertise, and reflective practice.
Supervision is a collaborative process which is designed to deepen clinical understanding, enhance therapeutic effectiveness, and ensure ethical, patient-centred care. It offers a supportive and structured space to think critically about clinical material, explore the therapist–patient relationship, and integrate psychodynamic principles into practice.
How Is Supervision Important?
Topics Covered in Clinical Supervision
Each clinical supervision session is centred on the supervisee’s goals and clinical context. Common areas of focus include:
Providing a regular space for the supervisees to reflect upon the content and process of their work.
Developing skills and understanding within the work.
Receiving information and another perspective concerning one’s work.
Receiving both content and process feedback.
Being validated and supported both as a person and as a worker.
Ensuring that as a person and as a worker one is not left unnecessarily to carry alone difficulties, problems and projections.
Having a space to explore and express personal distress, re-stimulation, transference or countertransference that may be brought up by the work.
Planning and utilizing personal and professional resources better.
Being proactive rather than reactive.
Ensuring quality of work.

Who Can Participate in Clinical Supervision?
Our clinical supervision services are for:
We tailor supervision to each supervisee’s level of training, area of focus, theoretical orientation, and professional goals.
While both clinical and peer supervision include reflection and learning, they serve two distinct purposes.
Clinical supervision is a formal process led by a qualified and experienced clinician who assumes evaluative and educational responsibility. It focuses on ensuring professional standards, exploring the patient-therapist relationship, supporting competency development, and prioritizing patient well-being.
In contrast, peer supervision, which the clinic also offers, is a collegial exchange between practitioners at similar levels of experience. Although it is valuable for mutual learning and a collaboration of ideas, it does not fulfill the regulatory or licensing requirements of professional colleges and lacks the evaluative oversight of formal supervision.
