Hina Bhutani

Community Outreach Assistant

I’m currently a third-year Psychology Specialist student at the University of Toronto, with a strong interest in how psychological principles can be applied in real-world settings, particularly in areas such as mental health, workplaces, education, and community-based support.

I was drawn to the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights because it feels like a space where those deeper psychological ideas are actually being applied in a meaningful, real-world way. I’ve also developed a strong interest in psychodynamic therapy, and how this approach focuses on understanding the “why” behind behaviour, not just the surface-level actions. I’m really looking forward to learning more about how psychodynamic therapy is used in practice, and contributing to work that supports accessible mental health understanding in the community.

In my academic and professional experiences, I’ve developed an interest in understanding how people think, behave, and respond in different environments. I’ve also gained experience in leadership and communication through co-founding a student-led consumer psychology and marketing club, as well as through customer-facing roles where I learned how to stay attentive, adaptable, and supportive in fast-paced environments. These experiences have strengthened my ability to observe, listen, and respond thoughtfully to people’s needs.

Within the mental health field, I’m particularly interested in early intervention, prevention, and community-based support systems. I’m also curious about the intersection between psychology and everyday environments, and how mental health awareness can be integrated into more accessible spaces.

Outside of academics, I really enjoy pilates, spending time with animals (I have a morkie and I’m a big dog person), and working with children, which has also shaped my interest in supportive, people-focused environments.
