Autism Assessments in Cambridge

Autism Assessments in Cambridge

The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights provides virtual autism assessments for adults in Cambridge. Our comprehensive psychological assessments help individuals better understand differences in social communication, sensory experiences, relationships, routines, and emotional functioning while determining whether Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may explain their experiences.

Our autism assessments are available to adults aged 18 and older, with no referral required.

What Is an Adult Autism Assessment?

An adult autism assessment is a comprehensive psychological evaluation examining developmental history, social communication, behavioural patterns, sensory experiences, and psychological functioning.

Autism presents differently across individuals. Some adults may experience challenges with social interactions, sensory sensitivities, or changes in routine, while others may have developed strategies to mask or compensate for these differences.

A comprehensive assessment considers these experiences alongside developmental history, personal strengths, mental health, and other relevant factors to provide diagnostic clarification and individualized recommendations.

Autism Assessment Options and Fees

We offer two assessment options for adults in Cambridge:

Comprehensive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment — $4,900

  • A 14-hour psychological assessment examining developmental history, social communication, sensory experiences, behavioural patterns, adaptive functioning, and other factors relevant to autism.

Adult ADHD/ASD Combo Assessment — $5,600

  • A 16-hour combined psychological assessment for adults seeking diagnostic clarification regarding both Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Assessment services include clinical evaluation, interpretation, report preparation, and feedback.

Who May Benefit from an Autism Assessment?

An adult autism assessment may be appropriate for individuals experiencing:

  • Differences in social communication or interaction

  • Difficulties interpreting social expectations or nonverbal communication

  • Sensory sensitivities involving sounds, textures, lights, or environments

  • Strong preferences for routines and predictability

  • Highly focused interests or repetitive patterns of behaviour

  • Social exhaustion, masking, or difficulties navigating relationships

  • Longstanding feelings of being different or misunderstood

These experiences do not necessarily indicate autism. A psychological assessment helps determine whether diagnostic criteria are met while considering alternative or co-occurring conditions.

What to Expect During Your Autism Assessment

The assessment process typically includes a detailed clinical and developmental interview, standardized psychological measures, autism-specific assessment tools, and a review of relevant personal and mental health history.

When appropriate, additional developmental information may be obtained through previous records or individuals familiar with the patient's earlier experiences.

Following the evaluation, patients receive feedback and a written psychological report outlining diagnostic findings, relevant strengths and challenges, and individualized recommendations, as appropriate.
