Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program
The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights offers a virtual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program for mental health professionals, medical doctors, and trainees seeking to develop their theoretical knowledge and clinical skills in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Our program integrates classical and contemporary psychoanalytic perspectives with practical clinical applications, emphasizing the understanding of unconscious processes, emotional conflicts, interpersonal relationships, and psychological functioning.
Areas of Training
Our program explores foundational and advanced concepts in psychodynamic psychotherapy, including:
Psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theories
Object relations, attachment theory, and ego psychology
Unconscious processes and defense mechanisms
Psychodynamic case formulation and treatment planning
Transference, countertransference, and therapeutic relationships
Personality organization and psychopathology
Psychodynamic therapeutic techniques and interventions
Clinical ethics and professional boundaries
The Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program combines clinical supervision, theoretical study, and opportunities for personal reflection. Training is tailored to participants' professional experience, clinical background, and learning objectives.
Program Structure
The program consists of three components:
Clinical Supervision: Individual supervision meetings are held on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, depending on the participant's needs and availability. Sessions focus on clinical case formulation, therapeutic techniques, transference and countertransference, and the integration of psychodynamic theory into clinical practice.
Assigned Readings: Participants are assigned readings from classical and contemporary psychodynamic and psychoanalytic literature to strengthen their theoretical understanding and support discussions during supervision.
Personal Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (Optional): Participants may engage in their own psychodynamic psychotherapy with a clinician at CFPI to deepen self-awareness, explore personal emotional and relational patterns, and develop a greater understanding of the therapeutic process.
All components are available virtually, allowing eligible participants across Canada to engage in training and professional development.
