DSO Coverage

What Is Developmental Services Ontario (DSO)?

Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) helps eligible adults with developmental disabilities access government-funded services and supports throughout Ontario. As part of the eligibility process, individuals may need a psychological assessment documenting the presence of a developmental disability.

At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, we offer psychological assessments that may assist individuals seeking eligibility determination through DSO. Assessments are conducted by appropriately qualified psychological professionals and can provide clinical documentation relevant to DSO requirements.

Key Features of the Program

Who May Need a DSO Assessment?

Psychological assessments may be helpful for individuals who are applying for DSO services and require documentation to support their eligibility determination.

These may include:

  • Adults aged 18 and older seeking developmental services in Ontario.

  • Individuals with suspected or previously identified intellectual or developmental disabilities.

  • Individuals whose existing psychological documentation is insufficient or outdated for DSO eligibility purposes.

  • Individuals seeking clarification of their cognitive and adaptive functioning.

  • Families and caregivers assisting an adult with the DSO application process.

How Psychological Assessments Support DSO Eligibility

Developmental Services Ontario requires documentation establishing that an individual meets the applicable definition of a developmental disability. This generally involves evidence of significant limitations in cognitive and adaptive functioning, with onset before adulthood.

At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, our psychological assessment services may include:

  • Evaluation of intellectual and cognitive functioning.

  • Assessment of adaptive functioning and daily living skills.

  • Review of developmental, educational, and relevant clinical history.

  • Diagnostic evaluation of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Comprehensive psychological reports documenting findings and relevant recommendations.

The components of each assessment are determined by the individual's needs and the applicable DSO documentation requirements.

How to Access DSO-Related Assessments

  1. Confirm Your Assessment Requirements

Before booking, individuals and families are encouraged to contact their local Developmental Services Ontario office to determine whether a new psychological assessment is required. DSO can clarify documentation requirements and discuss available publicly funded assessment pathways.

  2. Schedule an Assessment

Contact the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights to discuss your assessment needs. Our team can review the requested documentation and determine whether an appropriate psychological assessment can be provided.

  3. Complete Your Assessment

Assessments are conducted by qualified psychological professionals and may involve clinical interviews, standardized psychological testing, and a review of relevant records.

  4. Submit Your Documentation to DSO

Following completion, the individual receives a psychological report that may be submitted to DSO for consideration. DSO independently determines eligibility for developmental services and supports.
