Mauricio Velarde, MPsy, BA, RP
Registered Psychotherapist & CRPO Supervisor
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience in mental health and addictions treatment across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. I provide therapy in both English and Spanish, and my work is deeply informed by cultural sensitivity and a strong commitment to client-centered care. I have extensive experience supporting individuals facing trauma, anxiety, mood-related concerns, relationship difficulties, and immigration-related stressors. In addition to my clinical practice, I have held leadership roles such as Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Director, which have strengthened my commitment to ethical, thoughtful, and high-quality care. My approach to therapy is grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic principles, with a focus on helping clients better understand the deeper emotional patterns that shape their thoughts, relationships, and life experiences. I aim to create a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where you can feel comfortable exploring both current challenges and past experiences at your own pace. Together, we look at recurring patterns and underlying feelings, often outside of immediate awareness, that may be impacting your well-being.
At the same time, my practice is informed by modern, up-to-date psychoanalytic perspectives that extend beyond classical approaches. I draw from a range of post-Freudian thinkers and contemporary clinicians, integrating ideas that emphasize relational dynamics, attachment, and the therapeutic relationship as central to change. I also incorporate elements of Transactional Analysis to help make complex emotional patterns more accessible and practical, particularly in understanding communication styles and interpersonal dynamics. This integrative approach allows me to adapt therapy to each person’s unique needs, supporting deeper self-awareness while also fostering meaningful, lasting change in daily life and relationships.

Sessions with Mauricio
Sessions with me are conversational, thoughtful, and tailored to your needs. We begin by exploring what brings you to therapy, while also remaining open to discovering deeper patterns over time. You are encouraged to speak freely, and we work together to understand both immediate concerns and underlying emotional dynamics, including those outside of conscious awareness. I pay close attention to patterns in relationships, emotions, and communication, including what may emerge within the therapeutic relationship itself. At times, I may offer reflections, questions, or connections that help deepen your understanding. The overall goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, more flexible in how you respond to challenges, and more able to create the changes you are seeking.
