Clinical supervision is a formal and structured process where a more experienced mental health professional. such as a Registered Psychologist, provides guidance, oversight, expertise, and support to clinicians in their professional practice.

It focuses on the development of clinical skills, ethical decision-making, and the application of theory to therapeutic work, while ensuring patient wellbeing and adherence to professional standards.

Supervision offers a reflective space to explore case dynamics, transference and countertransference, and the clinician’s own emotional responses.

Unlike peer supervision, which is typically collaborative and non-hierarchical, clinical supervision involves a defined supervisory relationship where the supervisor carries evaluative and educational responsibility.

Peer supervisions are offered to professionals practicing the controlled act of psychotherapy or working towards their registrations. Peer supervision meetings can be on regulatory, ethical, or therapeutic topics within the scope of psychodynamic psychotherapy.
